Pre/Post Intervention Reading Engagement Surveys
The reading engagement surveys that were used with this action research were adapted from a survey developed by John Guthrie and his colleagues. It was originally intended to be used by classroom teachers to measure the effectiveness of a professional development intervention on student's reading engagement. Since, this is being used outside of the classroom for students who are homeschooled, a few of the questions were modified to reflect the current research situation. As the primary educators of their children, the parents were also asked to complete a survey.
The students completed the surveys using a pencil and paper format before and after the intervention. The questions were read to each child individually to ensure that they understood the statements. The parents received a link to their surveys through an email and completed them online both before and after the intervention.
