Results of Intervention

The purpose of this study was to determine if reading engagement among a group of first and second grade students would improve with the use of iPad applications chosen to accommodate their specific learner strengths.

Although this was a small study group of only six members, the data that was collected from both the students and their parents before and after the intervention, was for the most part positive.  The results of the reading engagement surveys are available through the links below.

The first link lists the suvery statements and the responses from the pre and post intervention surveys.  The next link compares the responses through the use of matrices to demonstrate positive and negative changes in the students' reading engagement as measured by the Reading Engagement Index.  The pre and post results are also graphed.

These surveys demonstrate the change in student attitude towards reading, but they do not determine if that change is enough to compel the reluctant reader to choose reading over other activities.  It is this researchers hope that as a teacher,  I could take the spark of interest that was kindled through this intervention and generate a genuine interest in books and reading.
